Technical University Munich operates the high flux Neutron Source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) located at the scientific campus in Garching, Germany. The neutron source itself, its research instruments as well as the irradiation facilities provide unique possibilities for the scientific and industrial use of neutron beams.
The instrument RESEDA is a resonant neutron spin echo spectrometer utilized to investigate slow dynamic processes in hard and soft condensed matter. For the user operation and further development of the instrument, we invite applications for a full time (40h/week) instrument scientist (m/f/d) position.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of the instrument, scientific and technical support during user operation
  • Development of methods in the area of high resolution neutron spectroscopy
  • Scientific collaborations with external scientists from Germany and abroad
  • Pursuit of own research projects

Qualification and Experience

  • Degree in physics, chemistry, material science or related fields, ideally completed with a PhD / doctorate degree.
  • Experience in the application of neutron scattering methods or other scattering techniques for the investigation matter, a research focus on soft condensed matter systems or biophysics is an asset.
  • Experience in the operation of neutron spectrometers and in performing simulations using Monte Carlo methods is beneficial.
  • Persuasive communication skills and ability to work in a team in an international environment are mandatory.
  • Good oral and written English skills are required, German language skills are an asset.

The position is remunerated according to TV-L and is initially limited to 3 years.
